ItвЂ™s just as funny now as it was upon release twelve years ago, and the never ending Russiagate debacle only adds prescience to the film's Cold War mindset. Think Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy crossed with Four Lions, andвЂ¦ youвЂ™re still pretty far away, actually. The Cohen BrothersвЂ™ star-studded farce Burn After Reading, however, aims its satire at the paranoid incompetence of so-called intelligence agencies, and the scheming dunces who fall foul of them in search of an easy dollar.

Spy parodies tend to send-up the slickness of secret agents, the vanity of super villains and other Bond-inspired movie tropes. Keaton reflected toward the end of his life that he 'was more proud of that picture than any I ever made.' The General might be a comedy, but the way that it pitches an ordinary man into a dangerous political intrigue is pure spy thriller material, and Keaton's commitment to his own wildly dangerous stunts echoes in Tom Cruise's eye-boggling latter-day Mission: Impossible work.

Spy, starring Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Jude Law, Rose Byrne, Morena Baccarin and Peter Serafinowicz, opens on June 5. I hope the score itself is as good as Henry Jackman's Kingsman score. Remember when the Bond songs were included on the score albums? That's how it should be! Speaking of that album, the retro-style cover artwork is fantastic. In another throwback to the classic Bonds, Levan's song will be included on Theodore Shapiro's original motion picture score album. It's a somewhat disjointed affair (and nowhere near as addictively hummable as Take That's Kingsman theme, 'Get Ready For It'), but still a cool, distinctively 'spy' song, and likely to serve its purpose just fine in the context of the movie.

While there's no question she's got the powerful vocal chops to belt out a Bond-style title song, I wish the hook came earlier in the tune. The song is performed by LA-based singer/songwriter Ivy Levan. The music video (which I suppose may contain elements seen in the film's credits) is done as an homage to the classic Bond title sequences of Maurice Binder and Daniel Kleinman. 20th Century Fox debuted the official theme song for Paul Feig's James Bond parody Spy today.
